 Our
primary aim is to find great, permanent homes for the animals in our care.
This is something we take very seriously. It is impossible for someone who has
not been in the position of having to home animals to understand how very
hard this can be. We put a huge amount of work and love into helping the
animals here become healthy and happy individuals, often following
mistreatment and neglect in their previous homes. To then entrust the care
of that animal to a stranger is incredibly difficult.
So, if you
want to home an animal from us we ask you, initially, to complete an
application form, telling us about you and how you will care for the
animal(s). We will ask for references and we will follow these up and take
our time to get to know as much about you as we can. If there is anything
on your form which we're unsure of or which might not fit with how we like
our animals to be cared for, we will contact you with questions and
suggestions. Then we will call you and have a chat to get to know you a
bit more. We may come and do a homecheck or ask a volunteer in your area
to conduct one for us. We want to find homes for our animals but we need
to be certain they are excellent homes. Sometimes we will say thank you
but we are unable to home an animal with you at this time. We don't mean
to offend but if we're at all unsure we would rather be safe than sorry.
If you are approved you will be expected to sign an adoption contract. The
whole process may take several weeks - it is not something we are willing
to rush, it is just too important that we get it right.
We
are located near to Croydon in Surrey but we are willing to home
throughout Great Britain, subject to transport. We do have volunteers who
help us to get animals into new homes so it's worth asking, even if you're
quite far away. We do not home outside of mainland Britain and we will not
"ship" any animal overseas.
It's
important to note that the animals here are not For Sale. On adoption you
become the animals' guardian but they remain the legal property of STAR.
Should you ever be unable to care for the animals or break the terms of
the adoption contract, the animal(s) would need to be returned to us. We
do ask you to make a donation when you adopt from us but there is no set
amount required.
Please also note we only home to private
pet homes, not to schools, education centres, farm parks etc.
Please follow the links at
the top of the page to meet the available animals.
